The book gives description of the laboratory works on metal forming and shaping, welding and cutting. Students are not admitted to the credit testing in technology of constructional materials unless they fulfill all laboratory works.
Performing each laboratory work consists of several stages: preparatory work, carrying out the work, its data processing, drawing up a report, defending thework.
During the preparatory stage, students should study theoretical information using lecture summaries, text books and laboratory work description, equipment and tools as well as the work procedure.
While performing the work, students should make an experiment and make measurements according to the work description and obtain results.
After the laboratory work has been completed, itshould be defended. The students must be able to answer the teacher’s questions.
LABORATORY WORK 1

INVESTIGATION OF METAL DEFORMATION EFFECT
BY EXTRUSION

The purpose of the work: to study the effect of metal deformation; the change of the metal structure and its mechanical properties after extrusion; to get acquainted with some methods of extruded shape manufacturing in practice.
Thetask of the work: to extrude the lead specimens; to study the effect of metal deformation on different degrees of deformation.
Theoretical information: the extrusion process of metal and mechanical properties of metals are influenced by the temperature of process, the degree of deformation, rate of extrusion and metal flow, external friction against container walls. The lead specimens may beused for studying extrusion process in laboratory, because this metal has high ductility. The recrystallization temperature of lead is – 36°C.
The lead specimens are pressed in containers, which are formed of two halves, joined by ring 3 (fig. 1.1). The containers have matrices with different diameters of output holes to ensure the degree of deformation limits on extrusion from 30% up to...
