TEMECULA
I´m going to talk about a city named Temecula Valley. This place is located in Southwestern Riverside County, California, with a population of 100,097 (one hundred thousand and ninetyseven) it is almost equidistant to San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County California. Where you find great wine, hot air balloons, a large lake, casino, golf courses, and many others things to do,Temecula has always been a place where the combination of mile climate and beautiful rolling hills have attracted human settlement. The name Temecula comes from the Luiseño Indian word “temecunga” “temet”meaning “sun” and “-ng na” which means “place of ”. the Spanish interpreted and spelled the word as “Temecula”. Over the years, the meaning of Temecula has been translated in to several differentversions of this interpretation, including the most popular, which is “where the sun breaks through the mist”. In the pre-1800´s the area was inhabited by the Temecula natives for many hundreds of years.Before their first meeting with the Spanish missionaries (the people are now generally known as the Luiseños, after the mission San Luis Rey de Francia). The Luiseños Indians believe their ancestorshave lived in the Temecula area for more than 10,000 (ten thousand) years. The first recorded Spanish visit occurred in October 1797, with a Franciscan Padre, father Juan Norberto de Santiago CaptainPedro Lisalde. To many Spanish people lived in the area at the time of the examination and during the conquest and evangelization of the natives. Due to the strong Spanish influence, there are manystreets that still have Spanish names. During the late 1900´s a developer tried to change the name of the area but he fell. The old town of Temecula blends historic buildings with over 640 antiquedealers, unique shopping, and restaurants. It is also the side of many special events including car shows, western days, and summer weekend entertainment.
