“TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS”

“TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS”
HISTORY:
This temple was built by ordersof King Croesus in honor of the goddes Artemis.
For the Greeks, goddess of hunting, wild animals and the wars was very important. Was represented by itsfertility.
Inside, the temple had a statue of the goddess of 2 meters high made of vine wood and coated with gold and silver.
The temple was designed by aGreek architect Quersifrón and builted around 550 BC wich lasted about 120 year, by orders of the king of Lydia (Croesus)
Then it was destroyed by a fire, thenight that Alexander the Great was born.
Legend says that Artemis did not prevent the fire because she was on the birth of Alexander.
When Alexander died inthe year 323 BC the Greeks rebuild the temple but was devasted again, this time by the Goths in 262 BC.
Over the next 2 centuries the majority of Ephesiansconverted to Christianity and the temple lost its importance. The remains were reused for other buildings.
ARQUITECTURE:
The temple had 110 feet long by 54meters wide, 127 ornaments carved columns and was made mostly of marble.
CONCLUSION:
I believe that the temple of Artemis is truly a wonder of the worldbecause it was a great symbol of faith in the history, had a lot of religious significance and was dedicated to a goddess. And I think it must had been verybeautiful.
Finally I chose this topic because I find it very interesting all that is related to Greek gods because they had a lot of magnifics histories.
