American Exceptionalism

We can define American Exceptionalism as an ideology that says that theUnited States is different from other nations; that occupies a special position in history because it has exceptional characteristics which make the nation to succeed. This theory emphasizes the ideathat America is a nation of immigrants bond together by same needs, such as liberty, individualism, and equality. By knowing this information, I personally believe that no country should consideritself more important than another one; because every country has its own special characteristic which makes it unique. Not all the backgrounds that every country has are the same. It is important to knowthat all the countries in the world had different colonizers and beginnings (as countries).

The possible origin of American Exceptionalism goes back to the 19th century; when Alexis deTocqueville wrote his work Democracy in America in 1835, giving to the United States a highly successful characteristic. But there are also other important factors that deal with the origins of AmericanExceptionalism. One of these could be the Puritan origin that suggests that the religious faith and commitment of early settlers are factors that may be involved in this ideology. Other theory is thatthe unique environment of the United States is the main cause, due to the size of the nation, and the untamed nature of the environment (you would need courage and bravery in order to “tame” thisenvironment).

The relationship between settlers and character bulding with American Exceptionalism is that they are bond together. Most of the American character is build with the visions of “whatis a country” of the first settlers that came to the country; and inside this character exists a Nationalism (because most of the characteristics existing in Exceptionalism deal with Nationalism),...
