RESUMEN
El presente estudio forma parte de un proyecto sobre los macroinvertebrados del río Albarregas
como indicadores de Calidad de Agua. Este material biológico fue colectado durante 1993 en tres
parcelas de 20 m x 5 m c/u de ocho estaciones seleccionadas(A1-A8) a diferentes altitudes (22001050 m) del cauce. Se registraron algunas características físico-químicas del agua paralelo a las
colectas. El procesamiento del material colectado proporcionó los siguientes resultados: 1. En las
cuatro primeras estaciones (A1-A4) se colectó un total de 5373 individuos representados en 11
familias, donde el mayor número de individuos se obtuvo en el mes demarzo (N = 1899), mientras que
la menor representatividad correspondió al mes de agosto (N = 34), con igual esfuerzo de captura. 2.
Del total de tricopteros determinados, todos se encontraron en estado larval. Hydropsychidae fue la
familia dominante (79.96 %), representada en las cuatro estaciones por los géneros Smicridea (53.92%),
Leptonema (21.70%), Ceratopsyche (1.92%) yHydropsyche (2.42%). 3.Smicridea presenta la mayor
frecuencia de aparición en las tres primeras estaciones aportando 23.6, 13.9 y 10.7 %, respectivamente,
del total colectado. 4. Las dos primeras estaciones parecen presentar el hábitat óptimo para la
mayoría de los grupos identificados (19 taxa), y constituyen el 57.4 % de la colecta total. Este grupo
parece ser un buen indicador de calidad de agua, desaparece apartir de la estación A5 probablemente
debido a las alteraciones ocurridas por aumento de materia orgánica en el cauce del río.

TRICHOPTERA AS INDICATOR OF WATER QUALITY.

ABSTRACT
This study is part of a proyect aboutmacroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality at the
Albarregas river. This biological material was recorded during 1993 in three plots of 20 m x 5 m e/o of
the eight stations selected (A1-A8) to several altitudes (2200-1050 m) of the river bed. Some
Physicalchemistry features of the water were measured. Data processed gave the following results:
1. From the firsts four stations a total of 5373individuals were recorded for 11 families, in which, the
highest number of individuals was in march (N = 1899), whereas the smallest number was in august
(N = 34), with the same effort of capture. 2. Trichoptera determined were found in larval condition.
Hydropsychidae is the dominant family (79.96%), present in the four stations with the genera
Smicridea (53.92%), Leptonema (21.70%), Ceratopsyche(1.92%) and Hydropsyche (2.42%) as the
most common representatives. 3. Smicridea had the greatest frequency of appearance in the formerly
three stations reaching a representatiton of 23.6, 13.9 and 10.7 %, respectively, from the total
recorded. 4. Apparently, the first two stations offer the most favorable conditions for the majority of
the determined groups (19 taxa), it represent 57.4% ofthe total of the macroinvertebrates. This group
seams to be a fine indicator of water quality, since it was not collected beyond A5 due to the
disturbance by the increasing organic effluent on the river bed.
