UNAM develops technology to improve solar cell efficiency

Mexico, 20 Jul. -Institute investigator Renewable Energy National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Xavier Mathew, developed thin film photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity efficiently.
Theresearcher said that in Mexico you can harness solar energy using different technologies like photovoltaic and photo thermal because national average insolation is five kilowatt-hours per square meterper day.
Mathew Xavier said that the use of solar energy is still small in the country, however, the benefits of installing solar cells can significantly reduce the costs of electricity consumptionin homes.
He stressed that if you choose to install a two-way meter and redirect the surplus to CFE network and if the generation is sufficient, the payment of light is reduced to almost zero....
