The person who told me the story did not use many adjectives, but Idecided to add them, to create a more vivid picture. The scenes are all in the same place, a little town in Belgium, which matches with the character feelings about living there, given its reputation assomewhere where very little happens. In the oral version the main character was influenced by other secondary characters, which would have been too much for 1000 words of written narrative.
In myfirst draft, I had various secondary characters who influenced her, I have opted to focus on the dynamic between Samy and Eric. They influence her at every point of the story, bad and good. I realisedthat showing more details of her character by referring to her emotions and how she feels would give a clear picture of her.
The genre is autobiographical, and so I have decided on a first personnarrator to add authenticity and to create her voice. This is realised through the semantic fields of love and friendship, with words such as “cocktail of emotions” and “love”.
I used an abstractopening so that the readers get a sense of mystery and attract them. The opening is quite important because by the way I used adjectives and a semantic field of mystery with words like “fog” ”cold” and“melancholic” to give the impression that it is something dark and sad. The ending is a moral ending, to help the readers think about what they are doing, especially to influence teenage girls who want tobe like other people.
The happy ending should make the reader feel that any person can fight for what they want and overcome even really difficult problems.
