No espero ni solicito que crean el relato muy salvaje, y sin embargo muy hogareño, que voy a escribir.
I don’t wait or expect that you believe the very wild tale, buthomelike, that I’m going to write.
Estaría loco si lo esperase, en un caso donde hasta mis sentidos rechazan su propia evidencia.
I will be crazy if I wait for that, in a case where even my sensesreject its own evidence.
Sin embargo, loco no estoy, y con gran seguridad puedo decir que no sueño.
However, I´m not crazy, and I can say with great certainty that I´m not dreaming.
Pero mañanamoriré, y hoy aliviaré mi alma.
But tomorrow I will die, and today I will release my soul.
Mi propósito es presentar ante el mundo, de modo sencillo, sucinto y sin comentarios, una serie de simplesacontecimientos cotidianos.
My porpoise is to present to the world, in an easy, succinct and without comments way, a series of simple daily facts.
Con sus consecuencias, esos acontecimientos me hanaterrado, torturado, destruido.
With its consequences, those facts have terrified, tortured and destroyed.
Sin embargo no trataré de exponerlos.
Still that I will not expose them.
Para mí, hanrepresentado poco más que el Horror, para muchos parecerán menos terribles que estrambóticos.
For me, have represented a little bit more than the Horror, for others it could look less terrific tan eccentric.En el futuro tal vez pueda encontrarse algún intelecto que reduzca mi fantasma a lo común: un intelecto más calmo, más lógico, y mucho menos excitable que el mío, que percibirá, en las circunstanciasque detallo con temor reverencial, nada más que una sucesión vulgar de causas y efectos muy naturales.
In the future maybe it can be found an intellect that reduce my ghost to the common: a morequiet intellect, more logical, y less excitable than mine, that receive, in the circumstances that I detail with a reverential terror, nothing else than a vulgar succession of causes and very natural...
