THE CATCHER IN THE RYE

The catcher in the rye written by J.D Saldinger and first published onthe USA in 1945 is a book who has Holden Caulfield as the main character in the story. Is narrated in first person and in a circular time events, which starts at the end of the events and further bytell us the story behind to get and the present of the story character. This book makes allusion to several themes, but the most important is the American dream, and the perspective people andcharacters have. In the catcher in the rye show us a different perspective of this perspective so many people have about it. This book is written to several type of audience, because teenagers can identifywith his experiences and events he pass though; as for an adult audience also because is making a thought criticism to the society and appearance and fakeness adults are.
The American dream is a clearsymbol of perfectness, to be a successful person, to have money, be rich, be famous, and be happy. You go to the US and all of your problems will be gone. That is why many people all around the worldwant to go and live there no matter what. But the truth is totally the opposite, having problems to succeed and to have a decent live and to be happy in a country which chances to achieve somethingare difficult. In the story this dream is reflected and narrated by the main character Holden. He is doing always a constant comparison of real and phony people that is surrounded by fake citizens. Hewants to show the fakeness of the society which is always interested in appearances and materialistic things. He being a 16 year old teenager is passing through a series of events and a maturity statethat he is living and in some stages of the book acts as a very mature man, but in others has a very childish attitude; and in these stages is when he shows us the society and the emotions he feels...
