The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe. The story is about a haunted house where anythingcan happen. The story begins when the narrator is invited to the haunted house owned by Roderick Usher. He is the last man of his family and suffers from adisease, which is unknown. Roderick lives with his sister Madeline, who has catalepsy, which is a nervous disease that causes the rigidity of the bones. Since thedead of Madeline, mysterious things began to happen giving the story a very spooky end.

This story has many symbolisms but the main are the charactersand the house. The house is known as “the mansion of gloom”, with its dark hallways and draperies, and ebony floors. The house has a gothic style. Roderick Ushersuffers from a mental disorder; and that cause him to send letter to the narrator. They are many similarities with the house and the characters. One of the themesis the darkness that is in them. Also the house and the characters are dying and decaying. These similarities affects all the character and for sure the house.Roderick shows the decaying by his appearance; because he has been deteriorated over time and his mental disorder has made him crazy make him do things out ofcontrol. Madeline also shows these two things because of her disorder.
