The Five Orange Pips
The story of uncle Elias
In September 1887 an old friend was visiting to sherlock Holmes in Backer Street. Suddenly, someone knocked at the door and Holmes said, “Come in”.A young man came in and asked for help. So the man sat and told them about his life.
His name was John Openshaw. He had an uncle called Elias. He made a lot of money in America. He didn’t like theblack Americans. He fought in the Civil War but when the south lost the war, Uncle Elias left America and went to England. He lived in a large house but there was one small room which was alwayslocked.
One day Uncle Elias received a letter from Pondicherry- India. In this letter was written “K.K.K” and uncle Elias began to cried. He was very afraid. Then one night his uncle was found dead inthe river. John knew it wasn’t an accident.
More pips
One morning John’s father opened a letter; he found five orange pips and on the envelope was written “K.K.K”. His father and he were veryafraid.
Three days later his father went to visit an old fiend but never came back. The police said that he fell down a hill but John wasn’t agree. He thought it was murder.
Time after John received aletter from “K.K.K”, and five orange pips fell from the letter. This letter said “put the papers in the garden” like the other letters. John was in danger.
He found a small piece of papers in a lockedroom. Holmes said that he had to put these papers into Elias box, write in a letter that you uncle had burnt all the others papers, and put the box outside in the garden. John went out.
K.K.KSherlock Holmes talked to Watson about John Openshaw. He discovered that the three citys were a sea ports. So John’s enemy was in London.
Watson discovered that “K.K.K” was meaning Ku Klux Klan. UncleElias belonged to this secret group. When he left to America he took with him some papers of this organization. So the group couldn’t go on.
When he was working for the “K.K.K”, he sent the pips...
