In chapter 19, Lois Lowry, the author of this book, describes the way that Jonas, the main character, experienced when he saw the release that his father performed to thebaby twin. She describes the scene in a completely precise way, because she uses adjectives that make it very interesting. She retells every single situation in detail in order to grab the reader’sattention.
The place where Jonas’s father is going to perform the ceremony of release has one bed, where they release the baby twin that is the one who weighs less, and there is also a bigbox where they put all the things necessary to release the baby. Jonas’s father spoke in a very fast way when he talked to an assistant that was standing next to him.
When Jonas realizeswhat “release” really means, he starts crying and shouts: “My father is killing somebody!” Jonas is totally shock and he cannot believe that his father has lied to him. He is terribly sad andconfused. Since in his community nobody lied, he does not understand how his father has lied to him during his life. On the other hand, Jonas is a extremely angry because it is very hard for him to see thathis father is killing someone, just because he has less weight than the other twin.
To sum up, I think that Lois Lowry has totally succeeded in describing Jonas’s feelings because shemakes us really love the story and want to finish reading the book quickly.
La solidaridad es un valor muy importante para la vida, es un valor que nos forma como buenas personas, que nos enseña aponerse en el lugar del otro siempre, saber que todos somos iguales, porque uno nunca sabe las situaciones que nos presenta la vida, hoy podemos estar en un lugar y mañana en otro completamentediferente, y siempre vamos a necesitar del otro para salir adelante, por eso mismo hay que ayudar a los demás, porque todos necesitamos la ayuda del otro. Este es un valor que se ve muy presente en la novela...
