The heart
It is a muscle.
It is divided in two sides: - the right side
- the left side
This division is important because it prevents the oxygenrich blood from mixing with the oxygen poor blood.
The circulatory system is made up of: your heart and the blood vessels.
This system circulates blood and oxygen to all the tissues and organs inyour body.
Oxygen- poor blood (blue blood) returns to the heart through the cava veins after having circulated through your body.
The right side of the heart consists of:
- the right atrium
-and the right ventricle.
The right side of the heart collects the oxygen-poor blood and then pumps it through the lung artery into the lungs. (this is the only place in the body where you will seean artery painted blue, because it is transporting oxygen-poor blood – blue blood – into the lungs. The lungs will then refresh the blood with oxygen making it turn red.
The oxygen-rich blood (redblood) leaves the lungs and goes into the left side of the heart. It does this through the lung veins (this is the only place in the body where you will see a vein painted red, because it istransporting oxygen-rich blood – red blood into the left side of the heart).
Oxygen-rich blood (red blood) then enters the left side of the heart composed of a left atrium and a left ventricle. The leftventricle then pumps the red blood through the aorta into the body.
