The abstract is written in block format,meaning that the start of the paragraph is not indented. It begins on the next line following the Abstract heading and should not be more than 250 words. The Abstract heading should be in bold. Allnumbers in an abstract should be typed as digits and not as words unless they are at the beginning of a sentence. On March 17, 1861, King Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia became king of Italy by unifying the states around thepeninsula. From then on until the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini Italy ruled with a liberal constitution. Benito Mussolini wanted to improve the economy and have the same power that the Roman Empireonce had. Italy was neutral in the beginning of World War I but later joined on April 26, 1915 and was with Britain, France, and Russia. Otherwise known as the Triple Entente. Italy joined the warbecause Britain had offered territory in a secret treaty called Treaty of London. The war caused high unemployment and they barely received anything from the Treaty of Versailles. Which was very humiliatingfor them. Italy conquered Ethiopia from 1935-1936. Later they drew closer to the Nazis in Germany and Japan.
In the beginning of World War II, Italy was neutral once again but more friendly withGermany. On June 10, 1940 Italy declared war on Britain and France and was on the Axis side along with Germany and Japan. Mussolini began trying to expand territory in Africa. In 1941, they declared waron the Soviet Union and the United States. A Constitutional Referendum was held in Italy on June 2, 1946 and the majority picked a republican government.
