REVIEW OF THE KING’S SPEECH

The King’s speech, a drama starring by Colin Firth show us the story of Albert Frederick Arthur George, better known as Bertie, Duke of York or,later King George VI. The father of the actual queen Elizabeth II had a complicated life. Born as a knock-knee child the 14 December of 1895, he had to wear rective splints on his legs until he wasseven years old, that traumatic childhood affected him and he developed a speech defect.

The first scene of the movie is when Bertie has to close the speech at the British Empire Exhibition, he triesto speak, but his tongue is tied, there is an agonizing silence, he is too nervous and he cannot say a word. Then, is the start of the plot of the movie. Bertie’s wife, the Duchess of York (HelenaBonham) looks for a solution for his husband. After that some doctors couldn’t find a solution, she finds Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), a funny Australian speech therapist who just will help his husbandif he goes to his clinic: “Mi game, my castle, my rules.” Bertie has to resolve his problem, because after his brother Edward (Wallis Simpson) abdicates, he is the new king of England. That involvesa speech from Bertie to all the country at the start of the Second World War.

The success of the movie is the fusion of a good direction, Tom Hooper, a good group of actors and a good way toperform the story. The epic performance of Colin Firth makes you feel the agony, the emotion and the suffering of the character, always accompanied by his wife, Helena Bonham, who suffers for his husbandand wants to fin the solution. This actress has a special charm that captivates the spectator. The final performance of Geoffrey Rush makes you feel the proud he feels for Bertie, and the struggle thatboth of them had to get the success of the king. When the spectator is watching the movie you really are inside it, you can fell the emotion, tension, proud.
