COMPARE AND CONTRAST: “THE LAMB” AND “THE TIGER” BY WILLIAM BLAKE.

This essay will analyze, compare and contrast two poems by William Blake, called “The Lamb” and “The Tyger”. I will be looking atuses imagery, structure and form to create effects.
In the late 18 th century, the world was changing and developing fast. Confrontations, revolutions for better conditions and a growing populationin the middle of strikes fighting for their rights were some causes of those changes in the world. Blake was born in London, en 1757 and died en 1827. He was an unknown writer during all his life butnow, his literature is well taking into account. His writing reflects his own change through the years, as his works show, both in “Songs of Innocence” written in 1789 and 2Songs of Experience”written in 1794, we can see a transition from an innocent person to an experienced one who can see that nothing is so perfect as he thinks at the beginning.
In “Songs of Innocence”, we find “The Lamb”. Itappears to be about a child who is wondering who the creator is but on a deeply level, is about religion, about God and everything connected with the Bible. Similarly, “The Tyger” is apparently aboutan experienced man who is wondering who the creator of the tiger is but, actually, what the poem is talking is the Evil and why God can allow such dangerous things. Likewise, the mood or tone of thetwo poems is very different, in “The Lamb”, we can distinguish a childish mood, full of innocence, happiness and hope; instead, in “The Tyger”, the tone is aggressive and violent.
Blake’s poetry isfull of striking images like “…What immortal hand or eye…” that gives the reader a clue that the poet refers to God w3ith the word IMMORTAL; we can also find a personification like “…And waterd heavenwith their tears…”. In “The Lamb”, there are imageries like this “…Gave thee clothing of delight, softest clothing wooly bright…”; or metaphors like “…He is called by thy name…”, it is said that is...
