The Last Leaf
In an area of New York, which is called Greenwich Village, lived people who were interested in art. Among these people were Sue and Joanna who were painters. They found that their tastes were so similar so they decided to set up a studio together.
In winter, a strange cold came to the city. This new disease which called pneumonia, spread Johnsy(Joanna). She was very sick andweak. The doctor said to Sue that she had one chance in ten to live, and that chance depended on her will to live. Sue told him that Johnsy hoped to paint the Bay of Naples, and this could be good for fighting for his life. Unfortunately, Johnsy wasn’t thinking in that, on the contrary she was thinking that she won’t get well.
She always was looking through the window to see the leaves fallingfrom the vine. Johnsy counted the remaining leaves and it said that when the last leaf fell, she would die. Sue thought it was crazy, so she told it to Mr. Behrman. Mr. Behrman , who was an old failed painter and lived on the ground floor below they, painted on the wall the last leaf. Two days after that, the old painter died with pneumonia because the day when he painted the leaf, was cold and itwas raining. When Johnsy saw that not a leaf fell, she hope to live again. She thought that if the leaf had not fallen yet, was because he wanted to show her that how bad she is thinking about wanting to die. Then, Johnsy returned to want to paint the Bay of Naples.
Fortunately she survived thanks a Mr. Behrman’s masterpiece.
