THE MEXICAN LANGUAGES
The most spoken language in Mexico is Spanish. It is the official language in this country, so it is used throughout. Hence it is the mother language of the almost all Mexicanpeople. The Spanish is also the official language in many countries of Latin America. Since almost all the countries of America were conquered by Spain. Especially in México the Spanish is spokensince 1521.
But, not all Mexicans speak Spanish, besides the official language there are other sixty seven indigenous languages. The most relevant native languages are: Nahuatl, Maya, Mixteco, Tzetal,Zapoteco, Tzotzil, Otomí, Totonaco, Mazateco and Chol. The INEGI census notes that about six million people speak an indigenous language still. This makes to Mexico the country with more speakers ofindigenous languages in America and the country with more linguistic diversity of the world.
Now days the Nahuatl is the most widely spoken native language in Mexico, located the center region. It hasthe twenty six percent of all indigenous language speakers in the country.
The second is the Maya with the eleven percent and spoken in the southeast region of the country.
And the third is theMixteco with the seven percent and spoken in the Mixteca region, integrated by the Oaxaca, Puebla and Guerrero.
