Was the New Deal a success?

In 1933 over 30% of American’s were unemployed. After WW1 the US had for nearly a decade a economy of optimism and prosperity, but this prosperity and happiness will soon end when the United States was thrown into despair on Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929, the day the stock market crashed and the official beginning of the Great Depression. The great depression wasa time of famine, poverty, sadness and rebellion. But a “great president” to many American’s came to establish a new government and also to end with the Great Depression, this great president was Franklin Delano Roosevelt who created the New Deal that is a set of programs, rules, rights, etc. This new deal help millions of Americans to get out of the poverty and austerity, this new programscreated thousands of jobs and help millions of citizens to safe their farms and property. In addition to it the new deal was a success in many aspects and for the life of many Americans. The new deal was a success because it helped to end the poverty and unemployment of many Americans. But why many people think Roosevelt was not a good president? , Why black men and women didn’t enjoy of the New Deal?and Why did the republicans stop their support on Roosevelt? In the following essay we will shortly explain about the Great Depression before and after it started, The New Deal and President Roosevelt reforms.

When the 1920’s started, the wave of rebellion had died down in the US .The WWI was officially over. The economy was doing really well so there were not worries about possible futurerebellions. The 1920’s are sometimes called the “roaring twenties”, unemployment was down and most of the people had a job. People could afford to buy expensive products and spend their money on new properties. But most of the wealth was in hands of the richest people that were on top of the pyramid’s society. This led to the bottom of the pyramid that were black and white tenants to live in thecountryside on a state of poverty. Millions of immigrants came to the United States between 1900 to 1920. And the immigrant families in the cities who couldn’t find work or could earn money to get their basic needs had to live in unsafely places. Then in 1924 the government created a law that gave favored the immigration of white people form English and German origin. Racism was everywhere, the Ku KluxKlan (an anti-Semitic movement with a compromise to extreme violence to achieve its goals of racial segregation and white supremacy) came back in the 1920’s and spread for all the north of the US. After a long protest and strives from many women they finally won the right to vote in 1920.

In the 1920’s the economy seemed wealthy and stable. Prices for stocks were getting higher daily than ever.Many people were confident that the price of the stocks would continue growing. They invested their money on buying stocks and they even borrowed money from the banks to buy more stocks .In 1929 the wealthy economy ended with a crash. As stock prices plummeted with no hope of recovery, panic struck happened. Masses and masses of people tried to sell their stock, but no one was buying it becauseno one was able to buy it. People were trying to get out of the poverty they will soon had to suffer. The stock market, which had appeared to be the surest way to become rich, quickly became the path to bankruptcy. The great depression which affected millions of people not only took jobs it also took millions homes and fortunes. Millions of houses stayed empty because anyone was able to buy them.During those years of unemployment and poverty people starve; they had to make huge unending lines to get a job or a slice of bread. A lot of rich people lose their companies and properties. A lot of farmers lose their farms because their products were not sold. A lot of Americans left their town to go to a “better place”, the majority of them went to California with the hope of finding a job....
