The National Rifle Association (NRA).

The United States is the country with the biggest number of people owning arms in the world, and reaches the sixty million people owning a combined arsenal ofover 200 million firearms.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is an organization whose main goal is to protect the second amendment of the constitution of the United States, which refers to theright to own firearms. The right to carry arms comes from the right to self-defense. The NRA says that the purpose of the association is to protect people, but against what? When the constitution waswritten in the eighteenth century the situation was very different. The society needed citizens with arms to protect it as a whole, but today the situation is different. It is the work of the policeto protect society, and not of individuals.

In a society where both criminals and law abiding citizens have guns, there is a high possibility of innocent people getting shot. Taking this intoconsideration, it would be a good idea to reduce the number of people with guns, but this solution also presents a problem. By reducing the number of gun owners we might be disrespecting the constitution"A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." However, there is a key word in this amendment,“Militia”, meaning soldiers.

So, why should citizens have guns, when it improves the chance of getting innocent people shot? Would it be better to regulate gun ownership in spite of the constitution? Is theNRA protecting something safe for people? Certainly, we cannot answer that question right now, but whatever the answer is, it is really important to think and care about who gets a gun, since a gunin the wrong hands can cause death of innocent citizens, such as the innocent children in Columbine.
