The Prince by Machiavelli
The Prince was a great work by Machiavelli. Here we is shown that the author finished defining the "discovery" of the possibility of apolitical science autonomous, independent of the old principles and apart from moral considerations. According to Machiavelli, the prince has to follow the precepts of the utility, value, virtue,strength and cunning.
In the book he also describes part of realities, sometimes experienced personally, being consistent with his idea of the autonomy of political science. It is proposed to set asidepolitical utopias, like Plato, to theorize about a new policy model more realistic and applicable to the governments of his time. Francis Bacon said that Machiavelli simply describes what peopleactually do. What we are, not what they should be.
Although Machiavelli begins by describing the different types of principalities, it aims to discuss the "new prince", the man who comes to running astate by such factors as virtue itself, good fortune, for the people or the military cooperation to other princes. For each of these cases, causes and motivations Machiavelli exposes, analyzes thepotential hazards and imbalances of power or its relations with the subjects and the nobles and magnates of the state.
Given Machiavelli's personal experiences and socio-political environment, no wonderhis extreme pessimism.
Machiavelli makes much of the art of war as a means to maintain a full and prosperous state, as well as emphasizes the importance that the people respect and subject to hismaster. He believes that a prince must give a good image of their attributes, but not actually have. Machiavelli praises the virtue of rulers who are cruel to a few and thus maintain the state, whilecritical of gullible people and princes who are good and let their enemies destroy a part of his country, sure that this thirst for conquest of their enemies shall be satisfied.
