The Scarlet letter
Summary
I. THE PRISON-DOOR
The first Chapter it tries about an earth portion which was divided and one carries out a cemetery and a prison. What the author describes is the state in that he is the prison since there are still wooden remains that are; this prison is in Boston, and the founders of the new colony created it, it was located near Cornhill and this it was a veryimportant place since you consecrates the old cemetery of the king's chapel. In spite of this whole somber land there is a garden of roses and gives the meaning of when a criminal leaves prison then the roses together with her aroma and beauty they must demonstrate the kindness of the nature towards the one. Finally it is named the Santa Ann Hutchinson like the person that when I enter for thefirst time to the prison she made flourish the garden therefore she is related as presenting him a moral flower that alleviates the human being.
II. THE MARKET-PLACE
In this chapter the author describes the solemn way Puritans observe any act of punishment independent of the punishment type because this was from a criminal execution at a child whipping and says that this last act was soridiculous because one child wasn’t ready to obedience all the orders from his parents. Later he describes at the tows people when they are going to see the Hester Prynne’s punishment, the women of the town says that Hester must been put to death for her sin, others say that a A letter it’s a little punishment because Hester could be easily covered up the letter and the last viewer says that the letterit’s a good punishment to Hester because she will see the letter for all the days. When Hester appears with her 3 month old daughter on his arms, Hester was make his own A letter for your dress for this reason the people says that Hester is mocking of the towns people and of her punishment, later she walks to the pillory, that was a place where the townspeople can judge at the criminals and punishthis people, when she is in this place she thinks in her mother, her father and in a unknown man, the poor shame was when Hester is walking for the street and all the people see she like a strange person.

III. THE RECOGNITION
Standing on this public stage, Hester looks out and notices an American Indian and a white man (who is dressed partly in American Indian traditional attire) standing onthe outskirts of the crowd. She recognizes the white man by the slight deformity in his shoulders and squeezes her baby again until it cries. Ouch again! The man she recognizes puts a finger to his lips to indicate "shhhhhh" silently. The man begins to question a nearby citizen of the town. He asks, "Who is this lady and what the heck is going on?"The townsman explains that the woman is HesterPrynne and that she is married to an Englishman who is nowhere to be found (he’s been gone for two whole years and nobody knows where he is). The townsman says she has been in Boston for two years. Her hubby was supposed to follow her, but he hasn’t arrived yet. The child in her arms makes it very clear that Hester has had an affair. The stranger asks who the father is and learns that nobody knowsand that Hester will not confess. Her lover, the townsman says, will be made known. Meanwhile, Hester, up on the public stage, reflects that she is glad she has encountered the stranger, whoever he is, in this way—with a crowd of people between her and him.
Hester is encouraged, especially by her own pastor, Reverend Dimmesdale, to reveal the name of her partner in crime, even if said man muststep down from a high position of authority to join her on the stage. Her pastor’s plea is so eloquent that Hester’s baby lifts its arms out to him, stirring the crowd. Other ministers join Dimmesdale in urging her to speak the guilty name, but to no avail.
