The Twin Towers

The original World Trade Center (WTC World Trade Center Spanish) was a complex in Lower Manhattan, New York (USA), where stood the Twin Towers destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 because of an attack terrorist. Already in 1993 the World Trade Center had suffered another minor attack, leaving 6 dead and 1,000 wounded. The complex was for decades the symbol of the U.S. financial world.

The World TradeCenter was designed by Minoru Yamasaki in the early 1960's using a tube frame for structural design of the two towers of 110 plants each. The north tower (1) was the first to be completed, and the south tower (2) was the second. The complex was built in the heart of the city's financial district of New York, and contained about 1.24 million square feet of office space. [2] [3]

Between 1972 and1973, the Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world until the construction of the Willis Tower in Chicago. The other WTC buildings were the Marriott Hotel (WTC 3), whose construction finished in 1981, the World Trade Center 4, 5 World Trade Center and the World Trade Center 6, which were completed between 1972 and 1977, and the World Trade Center 7, which was completed in 1987.

TheSeptember 11, 2001 the World Trade Center was destroyed by an attack of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, which killed over 2,600 people. Today, the area where stood the World Trade Center is under construction, colloquially called Ground Zero include 5 high skyscrapers rising, crowned by the 1 World Trade Center (Freedom Tower and Freedom Tower), from 541 m, in addition to host a memorial to thevictims of September 11.

On April 10, 1912, the Titanic began its maiden voyage departing from Southampton (England) bound forCherbourg, Queenstown and finally to New York. Four days later, at 23:40 April 14, the ship struck an iceberg south of the coast of Newfoundland, and sank at 2:20 am on April 15. The incident resulted in the deaths of 1,517 people, and at that time became the worst maritime disaster in peacetime. [5]
The Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast (Northern Ireland). He leftNew York with 2,227 people on board, and one of the causes of the high number of casualties was that, despite complying with all maritime rules of the time, the ship had lifeboats for only 1,178 people, [6] and yet only 705 were saved. The Titanic was designed using some of the most advanced technology available at that time, such as watertight bulkheads dividing the hull into 17 separate sections and believed they could keep it afloat in case of breakage of part of the hull was fitted with a powerful telegraph station, a new design of three-bladed propeller. The Titanic was more luxurious than the RMS Olympic andapart from his rivals and their standard Cunard never came about the first-class amenities in luxury is concerned.
