THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF ETHICAL PRINCIPLES FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS

The Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists, according to the Declaration, speaks to the common moralframework that provide guide and inspiration to psychologist all over the world toward the highest ethical ideals in their work. Its objective is to provide psychologist around the world with a moralframework and a general set of four ethical principles, Respect for the Dignity of Persons and People, Competent Caring for the Well-Being of Persons and Peoples, Integrity & Professional and ScientificResponsibilities to Society. But, what is a principle? And why we use principles? Why not standards? According to the dictionary a principle is a basic generalization that is accepted as true andthat can be used as a basis for reasoning or conduct, in other words, a rule or standard especially of good behavior and a standard is a basis for comparison; a reference point against which other thingscan be evaluated criterion: the ideal in terms of which something can be judged established or well-known or widely recognized as a model of authority or excellence. Other characteristics of theUniversal Declaration are the description of the ethical principles based on share human values and articulate principles more general and aspirational instead of concrete and specific, this means, themare general for all cultures and regions. The importance of the Universal Declaration will depend on the propagation made by psychologist, organizations around the world.
