Eliot Ness was an U.S. treasury agent famous because of his efforts for fulfilling the law of prohibition. He was born in Chicago on April19, 1903 and he died in Pennsylvania on May 16, 1957.
This book tells the story of a man named Eliot Ness who worked as a prohibition agent. He joined to the Chicago police department to try tostop the corruption there, to stop “Al Capone” who was the leader of the Mafia. The Mafia was the responsible of the majority of murders in Chicago, they managed the business of liquors, they wereselling the liquor to bars, and if they didn’t want to buy it, The Mafia killed them. At the beginning all people thought that Eliot Ness was crazy, and everybody took him as a joke. His first steps werea failure. When he tried to catch one of Al Capone´s loads as his first mission, he failed because Al Capone had almost everybody bribed, and because of that Capone knew that Eliot was going to dothat movement. After that, Eliot knew that he could not trust in anybody in that police department, so he started to look for young people who were studying to become a police officer. After that, heand his new partners starting the great battle with The Mafia, a lot of people died after that. They could not find the way of blaming Al Capone because he was very clever and was not leaving anyevidence that could connect him with the cases. Step by step the moment to catch Al Capone was getting closer. Finally Eliot found the way of blaming Al Capone, Capone was evading taxes for several yearsand because of that Eliot could take Capone to the court and the judge sentenced him to 11 years of jail. After that people took Eliot Ness as a hero and the percentage of murders and corruption wasgoing down.
The best feature the book has is that you can imagine all the things that happen in the story, because almost everything is specified and you would not get bored while you are reading...
