The countryside all round the town of Crythin Gifford was flat and here there were no hills. The marshes were to the east of the town and Eel Marsh House was in the marshes.
2) Who was Mr. Jerome?
Mr. Jeromewas Mrs. Drablow’s agent.
3) Describe the woman Arthur saw standing at the back of the church.
The woman was dressed in old-fashioned black clothes, clothes of sixty years ago. A large bonnet, old-fashioned covered her face. The woman face was white and very thin.
4) What happened when Arthur tried to point the woman out to Mr. Jerome?
Mr. Jerome put him ill suddenly.
5) Who wasgoing to take Arthur to Eel Marsh House?
Keckwick was going to take Arthur to Eel Marsh House.
6) Why was it not always possible to go to Eel Mash House?
Because the sea had covered the causeway.
CHAPTER 4;
1) Describe the journey across Nine Lives Causeway.
Arthur and Keckwick passed the churchyard and were soon in open country. The country around the town was completelyflat. The marshes were strange and beautiful. There weren´t people and there weren´t houses. There was silence. They drove along the path until they came to the causeway. The sandy causeway was not much higher than the water on each side.
2) Describe Eel Mash House.
There was old furniture in every room. It was all large, heavy and old. There were old pictures on the walls. In therooms had desks and cupboards. In the house there was a damp smell. The whole house was dark and shadowy.
3) How long could Arthur stay before the tide covered the causeway again?
