Summary
This advisory is for all owners and operators of EFI-VUTEk UV light-enabled printers.The
proper care and use of UV bulbs significantly improves the life expectancy of the printer’s UV
lamps. The anticipated life of a UV bulb is approximately 1,000 hours.
There are many factorsthat affect lamp life span: temperature run at, lamp filter maintenance, average energy level settings, number of cold and hot restarts.

UV Bulb Indicator
A UV Bulb% indicator may be present for yourprinter model. This indicator is in the printer
VUI and is an estimate of the remaining UV Bulb life, expressed as a percentage. The estimate is based on a normal profile, which may or may not matchhow your printer is operated. Operating the printer using poor practices Shortens UV Lamp Life, while using best
practices Maintains UV Lamp Life.

Factors Affecting UV Lamp Life
Switching bulbson and off shortens the life of the UV lamp. The lamps should be left on if the
printer will be idle for one hour or less. If the printer will be idle for more than one hour, the
printer should beput in the sleep mode.

Shortens UV Lamp Life
There are several factors which can shorten UV lamp life, including:
• Turning UV bulbs on and off multiple times per day for less than one hour at atime.
• Operating the printer in poor environmental conditions, such as high facility temperatures (greater than 85 degrees Fahrenheit) or with clogged lamp filters.
• Allowing the temperaturebeneath the printer hood to exceed specifications by not
properly venting the printer itself.
• Printing with the highest cure options: double lamps, pre & post cure, high.
