Almost every day, as part of my normal routine before or after work I get a medium double-double at Tim Horton’s and sometimes maybe a muffin or a sandwich. Most of the time, I grab my car and wait in line for my turn to order. Very few times I enter the building to enjoy my coffee, and when I do it is very sudden for some reason. I am very observant of everything that happens around me, I'mcurious as to how a place is designed. This building which I often visit from time to time has its pros and cons in the way of design and circulation of people. The last time that I entered the Tim Horton’s building was before school started. The reason for this is because I mostly use the drive thru for purchases, mainly due to the speed and convenience. The first thing I notice when I get thereis the parking lot design. At times it gets very congested at times, especially during the morning hours because of the amount of people lined up for the drive thru. Another issue is the placement of the light posts. One post in particular is located very close to the entrance of the drive thru so drivers have to be careful not to hit it when coming around the corner. Another issue is that some ofthe parking spaces are in odd positions and interfere with each other. In the northwest part of the lot, there are three diagonal parking spaces; on the left and right there are another three spaces parallel to each other. When the cars that are parked in the northwest diagonal parking want to reverse go get out, they have to be very careful because there is not a lot of room to move due to theclose proximity of the other cars parked. Apart from that they also have to be careful because this section is where the main entrance to the building is located, so there is a lot of traffic of people coming in and out of the building. Apart from these issues, the overall design of the lot is good any provides ample space for parking as well as allowing a good flow of traffic for cars entering andexiting. There are two door entries into the building, the north entrance being the main, and most used entrance. The second door which is located on the west of the building doesn’t have much traffic because it faces the street and it doesn’t even have a paved path to enter. Both of these entrances have an air lock, two doors spaced about four feet apart. These are designed especially forthe winter time, so no wind and cold air enters the building. The problem with this is that each side has only one door instead of being a double door. When you open a door, you always run into someone and you have to move aside. Passing the second door and stepping into the place, the first focal point is the division between the serving counter and the tables that are divided by a diagonal islandcontaining artificial plants. If the customer line up is very long, it is most likely to interfere with traffic through the entrance / exit because of the short distance between the two. One of the most important features is the large windows. The place is full of natural light, yet it gives the impression of an open space. In some areas, the light distorts the tones of the main colors of theinterior. These colors are an alert red that is used in the rims and chair legs/back rested, a pale coral that is used in the walls and floor, and a dark brown that is also situated in some parts of the drop ceiling rims. Before going to this place as indicated, I tried to calculate the amount of tables that there are from memory. I came up with 19 tables, and to my surprise, that is exactly theamount of tables that there are; 6 of the 19 tables are for two people, 4 are tied to the island that divides the customer’s line (these include two large red benches). The remaining 9 tables are for four people. This indicates that approximately 70 people may occupy these seats, not including those that are waiting in line. As I sat down at this place and was looking around and observing little...
