Present Continuous or Progressive

Use the present continuous or progressive to describe an action that is happening right now.

1- ) Make sentences using the present continuous or progressive:


Subject + Verb to be + verb + ing + Complement.
I am studying English right now.
He/She/It isstudying English right now.
We/You/They are studying English right now.

2- ) Make negative sentences using the present continuos or progressive:

Subject + Verb to be + not + verb + ing + Complement.
I am not studying English right now.
He/She/It is notstudying English right now.
We/You/They are not studying English right now.

3- ) Make Question using the present continuos or progressive:

Be + Subject + verb + ing + Complement?
Yes, Subject + Be + verb + ing + Complement.
Yes, Subject + Be.
No, Subject+ Be + not + verb + ing + Complement.
No, Subject + Be + not.

4- ) Make W-h Question using present continuos or progressive:

W-h Question + Verb to be + Subject + verb + ing + Complement?
Subject + Be + verb + ing + Complement.

• What Is Your Sister doing now?
She is sleeping in her bedroom now
Note: you can use contraction when you are speaking:
Is not = isn’t
Are not = Aren’t



Past Continuous or Progressive

Use the pastcontinuous or progressive to describe an action that was in progress at specific time in the past. The action began before the specific time and may or may not continue after the specific time.

1- ) Make sentences using the past continuous or progressive:




Subject + Be in past + verb + ing + Complement.
I was studyingEnglish yesterday.
He/She/It was studying English yesterday.
We/You/They were studying English yesterday.

2- ) Make negative sentences using the past continuous or progressive:



Subject + Be in past + not + verb + ing + Complement.
