Theory of Knowledge essay


‘The vocabulary we have does more than communicate our knowledge; it shapes what we can know’.
Evaluate this claim with reference to different areas of knowledge.

Do we really know what vocabulary is? A lot of people could say that vocabulary is a way of expression, or that is an ability that humans have developed to interact with others humans beings,isn’t wrong but does they know that our vocabulary it could help us for increase or expand our knowledge. Well as an IB student I would explain if the human vocabulary does more that only communicate or express us, it help us. For example there are two IB students that went to a study trip to French, one have French Standard Level (Student A) and the other one Art Standard Level (Student B), thestudent A would be capable to express himself so he could learn more for the French culture but the one that don’t know how to express himself in a fluent way would not learn that much for the French culture, and he is not acquiring that knowledge as student A. This means that by not knowing how to express in this case in that city but it could happen in different situations.
Is a fact thatvocabulary occupies a huge amount of our dailies activities, this start when we were young by listing words and words until we find them the a signification in each word such as construct a sentences which have information, then we process that information into knowledge, there are different types of gaining knowledge by language that I would explain deeper in the essay. Also I would explain how bytime the understanding of language, express in a different type of communication (Secondary Sources), could affect the knowledge.
I would research and evaluate this claim with 2 different areas of Knowledge that are Language and History













The use of vocabulary in these days, are use for not only to communicate, we can share information and transform it asknowledge as mathematics, mathematics is a special case in which it creates a “new” language, this is due to the symbols that is use as “+, -, ×, ÷, ∑, ≤, ≥, ±, etc.” Knowing these aspects we can understand, process this information and also analyze it so we can transformed it into knowledge, in the other hand mathematics is not the easier subject in the program, that’s why it have to be extracareful while mathematics is being practice because any little error would cause bad data and bad data is no information and no information comes to be no knowledge.
There are also the swearing, they are created by people that want to express them self’s by hurting other people, this language has been acquire by teenagers of this “times”. In Peru you can’t drive without listening swearing of angrydrivers, this language has been so common than now people perception has change and they acquire this bad words as knowledge, specially kids (Young Kids), in my own experience I was walking down street and I listen two kids shouting each other a lot of bad words that I can’t imagine how they learn them, but as I grow up I now know how they learn this swearing, in my opinion is that they listentheir family or other people talk like that fluently and they have receive this language as information, they process this data inside their brains and finally “produce knowledge” that in this time are swearing. This is a good example of bad information process and produce not adequate knowledge but also is a good example how the language communicated by human have shape the knowledge in a bad waybut still it “shapes” the knowledge.
In business area, there’s also a kind of language that you have to use, in this case this language is formal, need to have a good understanding of the topic so you can carry out successfully the interpretation of the information such as to transform it in knowledge, for example the words mostly use in business subject is profit, customers, revenue, market,...
