Then the story shifts to adifferent scenario, there is a conversation between Chingachgook, a native, and Hawkeye, a white hunter. Chingachgook says that he is a Mohican and they were a very great civilization until the Dutchintroduced the fire-water to them. Now he calls his son Uncas “The last of the Mohicans”. Uncas then joins the conversation.
After this, the two parties join, the party of the ladies, Cora and Alice, and theparty of Chingachgook. Then Hawkeye finds out that Magua is a Huron, an enemy’s ally. They distrust his intentions and offer Heyward to shoot him, Magua hears this and he runs away, but the partyfollows him.
Magua escapes the chase but now the party know that they are in danger from the Iroquois (Indian foes), so they take shelter in a cave. After a few moments they hear enemies coming butsuddenly they stop attacking, the party waits for the next attack but when it comes they find out they are outnumbered and Cora tells Heyward to go look for his father, Munro, and ask for help. Everyonebut Heyward and David leave to get help.
After the scene goes quiet they hope the attacks are over, so they go to a secret space in the cave. Suddenly a group of enemies, Magua included, enter thecave but they don’t see the party. Then Magua spots them and Heyward shoots him, missing. The Indians take Cora, Alice, David and Heyward with them.
Magua wants to know where Hawkeye is, so he asksHeyward this information. He does not say anything and tries to convince Magua to let Cora and Alice go, saying that he’ll be rewarded by Munro. Magua doesn’t fall for this.
Magua then talks with Cora...
