LOCATION
Cusco, a major tourist destination that almost receives 1.5 million tourists each year, is a region in Peru bordered by the Ucayali Region on the north; the Madre de Dios and Puno regions on the east; the Arequipa Region on the south; and the Apurimac, Ayacucho and Junín regions on the west. Its capital is the city of Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, located in southeastern Peru,near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range found in the eastern end of the Knot of Cusco.

ACCESS
By land
Many roads communicate Cuzco with the different cities of the country. The main route is Lima – Arequipa – Cusco (1494 km); the trip takes by car 24 hours approximately. First to go from Lima to Arequipa you should take the Panamericana south along the coast. In Arequipa youhave to drive 10 hours approximately to Juliaca and then 12 hours to Cusco.
By train
There are various train services that travel to Cuzco, Puno and Arequipa. The route Arequipa – Juliaca – Puno – Cuzco (735 km) takes 23 hours approximately. Puno to Cusco by train is just a 10 hours trip.
By air:
It is the easiest way to travel to Cusco and the quickest. There are daily flights to Cusco cityfrom Lima, Arequipa, Juliaca and from many other cities in the country.
CLIMATE
Cusco’s climate is generally dry and temperate, it can be dived in two defined season: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season lasts from April to October, with abundant sunshine, and occasional nighttime freezes: July is the coolest month with an average temperature of 9.6ºC. The wet season lasts fromNovember to March, although frost and hail are common, snow is uncommon. Cusco is known as the spot on Earth with the highest ultraviolet light level.

HUMAN ATTRACTIONS
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site, 2430 meters above sea level. It is located on a mountain ridge above Urubamba Valley. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before beingbrought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham, since then it has become an important tourist attraction. In 2007 Machu Picchu was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Cathedral of Santo Domingo
The Cathedral of Santo Domingo is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cusco. The catherdral is located on the main square of Cusco calledthe Plaza de Armas. It was built on the foundations and incorporated the remains of Corichancha, an Incan temple torn down by Spanish colonists. It has become a major repository of Cusco’s colonial art and holds many archeological artifatcs as well as relics.

PHYSICAL ATTRACTIONS
Tres Cruces
Tres Cruces is a natural view-point on the limit of the Manu Biosphere Reserve located at 145kilometers from Cuzco, in the county of Paucartambo. In this place, the natural phenomenon "rayo blanco" (white thunder) occurs when the sun rises in the horizon. This particular tumbling of the sunlight occurs at down of the winter solstice, June 22th.
Cuatro Lagunas
The four lagoons is a beautiful place located in the higher part of the river Vilcanota at 114 kilometers from Cusco in the county ofAcomayo. The landscape of such a size and purity of the atmosphere is breathtaking. It’s a place were you can get in touch with the rural life that has an enormous evocative power and historical importance, because the rebellion of Tupac Amaru took place in here by the end of the 18th century. The names of the lagoons are Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha and Pampamarca, were fishing is practiced alot.
