What is a documentary?
-Is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality primarily for de purposes of instruction or maintaining ahistorical record.
In the popular myth, the word documentary was coined by Scottish documentarian John Grierson.
A Documentary is a creative work of non-fiction including:-Documentary film
-Radio documentary
-Documentary photography
The word documentary is also an adjective that means “related to or based on documents”Documentaries are often used to reveal an unusual, interesting or unknown angle.
They can be Funny, disturbing, ironic, absurd, inspirational, and shocking or any combination
Clues that willmake you find your perfect documentary idea.
1. Think of something that totally fascinates you.
2. Is there a social issue that you want to shine a light on?
3. Does someone inyour family have an interesting story or background?
4. What is happening right now in your family, school or community.
5. What kind of stories are you reading in your localnewspaper or at internet that may interest you?
6. A secret from one of your friends could be a great tip for an unusual or an unknown story
If you are not sure about your documentaryidea create a 2-5 minute “trailer”, kind of a visual Synopsis, which will
-Clarify how interested you really are in the process.
-Tests if your idea in “theory” works well.
-Itbreaks the inertia of just thinking about it and gets you actually doing something.
No matter how much research you do or how how hard you try to pick a topic that you think a lot ofpeople will be interested in, if you personally are not fascinated by it, you are going to fail.
Always go toward something that you are passion about, truly passionate about.
