Intro.

This project contains information about the Savanna, itsimportance in the enviroment, the life-containing ecosystem it represents, and the impact of the different influences the human being exerts on it. It also gives detailed and well-explained information about most of the subjects related to it, like the area it covers around the world, the different kinds of living and non-living things found in it, and much more.

The Enviroment - Savanna

Diferentkinds of enviroment

Tropical rainforest
A tropical rainforest is a place roughly within 28 degrees north or south of the equator. They are found in Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, Central America, Mexico and on many of the Pacific Islands. Within the World Wildlife Fund's biomeclassification, tropical rainforests are thought to be a type of tropical wet forest (ortropical moistbroadleaf forest) and may also be referred to as lowland equatorial evergreen rainforest. Minimum normal annual rainfall between 175 cm (69 in) and 200 cm (79 in) occurs in this climate region. Mean monthly temperatures exceed18 °C (64 °F) during all months of the year. Rainforests are home to half of all the living animal and plant species on the planet.

Tundra
In physical geography, tundra isa biome where the tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons. The term tundra comes through Russian тундра from the Kildin Sami word tūndâr "uplands," "treeless mountain tract." There are three types of tundra: Arctic tundra, alpine tundra, and Antarctic tundra. In tundra, the vegetation is composed of dwarf shrubs, sedges andgrasses, mosses, and lichens. Scattered trees growin some tundra. The ecotone(or ecological boundary region) between the tundra and the forest is known as thetree line or timberline.

Ocean
An ocean (from Greek Ὠκεανὸς, "okeanos" Oceanus) is a major body of saline water, and a principal component of the hydrosphere. Approximately 71% of the Earth's surface (~3.6×108 km2) is covered by ocean, a continuous body of water that is customarilydivided into several principal oceans and smaller seas.

Savanna
A savanna, or savannah, is a grassland ecosystem characterized by the trees being sufficiently small or widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of C4 grasses. Some classification systems also recognize agrassland savanna from which trees are absent. It is often believed that savannas feature widely spaced, scattered trees.
However, in many savannas, tree densities are higher and trees are more regularly spaced than in forest. Savannas are also characterized by seasonal water availability, with the majority of rainfall confined to one season. Savannas are frequently in a transitional zonebetween forest and desert or prairie. Savanna covers approximately 20% of the Earth's land area. The largest area of savanna is in Africa.

The Savanna

Although the term savanna is believed to have originally come from an Arawak word describing "land which is without trees but with much grass either tall or short" (Oviedo y Valdes, 1535), by the late 1800s it was used to mean "land with both grassand trees". It now refers to land with grass and either scattered trees or an open canopy of trees.

Spanish explorers familiar with the term "sabana" called the grasslands they found around theOrinoco River "llanos", as well as calling Venezuelan and Colombian grasslands by that specific term. "Cerrado" was used on the higher savannas of the Brazilian Central Plateau.
