Panama is a country privileged to be embraced by two oceans (Atlantic and Pacific) and be the narrowest point ofthe American continent, these natural advantages make this country a perfect place for the development of the maritime industry, however, is not a factor determinant for success,so getting to the point that today Panama has achieved has not been easy.
The Panamanian maritime industry has developed slowly over the years: to go back in history areimportant decisions that have charted the course of this country, one of the most significant, in my opinion, gives rise in 1925, when Panama as a free nation decides to offer the serviceof open registry vessels using a set of merchant consulates worldwide strategy with high expectations and welcomed by the community of owners, thus today have resulted ininternational recognition as the # 1 in boat registrations, this puts him in a privileged position within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for decision-making in the variouscommittees that make up this organization.
