How We Started
We feel that bike tours are the best way to experience Europe. The pace is perfect to explore towns and countryside, to meet people and to allow guiltless eating.
BikeToursDirect started with our own passion for bike touring in Europe. We didn't want to play the prices charged by many American tour operators, so wemade direct contact with overseas companies. We found we could enjoy the same experience at a fraction of the cost. Often the experience was even better, since the European companies attracted clients from around Europe. As much as we love Americans (were based in Tennessee), we didn't want to ride exclusively with Americans. Riding with a multi-national group was much more fun.
"Can We ComeAlong?"
After each trip, we shared our experiences with friends and ride buddies from our local bike club, who asked "Can we come along next time?". So we took them along to the Black Forest, to the Austrian Alps, to the Salzburg Lake Region and along the Danube.
We had so much fun arranging trips for ourselves and friends and developed such great contacts with the tour operators that we decided tolaunch BikeToursDirect. Now we can share our passion for bike tours in Europe with you.
Two Phases of Support
The planning part of your tour is handled by our Tennessee office. The processing -bookings, payments, accounting and tour documents- is handled by Nonstop Travel in California. We made this change in 2004 since Nonstop has a larger staff and greater capability to provide support with theadministrative and financial elements (especially when we're on the road learning about new routes).
They also provide comprehensive travel services and can help with travel arrangements including flights, lodging before and after your tour, rail passes and tickets, car rentals, transfers and general trip planning.
