FACTORS AND PREVENTION OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Did you know that Ecuador is the 4th country in the word with more traffic accidents?

I’ve been in two minor accidents, but some friends andrelatives have had series ones, that almost cost their lives.

This is a reality that we all live day by day. Many of you are drivers and I’m sure that also some of you have experienced, at any timein your lives, a car accident.

After researching more about this topic I could find out that the first cause of violent death in citizens here in Guayaquil, correspond to deaths from traffic accidents andrepresent almost 40% of all Causes.

When a traffic accident occurs, it is important to analyze what circumstances have produced the accident and the human factors that contribute to the incident ofit. That’s what I’m going to share with you today.

The mechanical factor is a minor cause of accidents. If the vehicle has mechanical disturbances, such as bad brakes, suspension problems, badtires, only require the concurrence of this circumstances, that are low, to make this happen. So a 5 to 10 % of the accidents may happen for vehicle problems.

But what is most important is the humanfactor. If the driver's senses are poor, their notion of risk is low and their reaction times are long, means is has an incorrect capacity to prevent accidents, so a bad driver is a subject likely toparticipate in accidents, this also can be applied to an imprudent pedestrian.

To this we can add the fact that the driver doesn’t take the necessary precautions as respecting traffic signals, speedlimits, driving under the influence of alcohol, or drugs, or not using the seat belt.

According to the reports of the National Transit Police, most traffic accidents are caused the "Inexperienceand imprudence of the driver", if this is added that almost 8% of accidents were caused by the "state of intoxication drivers”', we can conclude that in 70% of accidents the responsibility should...
