I, Maria C. Morales, am writing this letter to inform you that I am working towards gaining custody of Daniela Monserrat Sanchez. I am currently waiting on acourt date to be given to me to proceed with this process.
Every year, my husband and I would send money to her parents in Mexico to support Daniela. Before Daniela came to us, my husband and Itook a trip to Mexico to pay them a visit. While we were there, we saw the environment she was living in. We realized it was not the best for her. It was too violent for her to be raised there.There is a high volume of kidnapping for an exchange of a high amount of money. She currently had a few family members kidnapped and murdered for the reason that the family did not have themoney to pay the kidnappers. Daniela lived in a small town where everyone knows each other. They knew that we were sending money from the United States to help them with their struggle. There istoo much drug trafficking in that area as well. The environment is so bad, that we couldn’t even go to see our own family. No child deserves to be raised in an environment like that. Her parentswere struggling so bad, they couldn’t support her. They constantly called us asking for money. After a few years of them asking for money, her mother asked me if I could bring Daniela to theUnited Stated to live with us for a better future. Her mother did not want her only daughter growing up around a negative environment. She was scared for her daughter’s safety after whathappened to her cousins. She knew that if anything like that were to happen to her daughter, she would not have the money to get her back. Therefore, my husband and I went to pick up Daniela in Julyof 2012. Her mother knows that she is safe with us and that we can provide for her. Her mother knows Daniela will be in the United States continuing with her education without her feeling unsafe.
