1.1 What are Autodesk Land Desktop 2006 and Autodesk Survey 2006 software?
Autodesk® Land Desktop 2006 and Autodesk® Survey 2006 software are part of Autodesk’s
infrastructure solution: a family of products and services for mapping, civil engineering,surveying, and infrastructure management professionals. Autodesk’s infrastructure design
solution includes industry-accepted products, support and training resources, and a flexible
purchase model with a local sales and support channel. In addition, standard data formats
and a trained user base give you an advantage throughout the entire project lifecycle. You
benefit by knowing that your data willflow throughout the system; updates and new releases
are in sync and work together; you have one contact for training, support, and operational
issues; and you have one set of products that share a common look, feel, and concept.
Autodesk Survey 2006 runs on Autodesk Land Desktop 2006, which is based on AutoCAD®
2006 and components of Autodesk Map® 3D 2006 software products. AutoCAD 2006software provides new and enhanced features that help you increase productivity through
improved documentation, coordination, and publication of sheet sets. Improved document set
coordination enables members of a project team to manage sheets in each sheet set and
electronically transmit or archive sheets. AutoCAD 2006 also offers an automated,
streamlined way to organize design data by publishingthe sheet set to paper or DWF™
(Design Web Format™) file format.
Autodesk Land Desktop 2006
Autodesk Land Desktop 2006 software combined with Autodesk Survey 2006 software forms
the basis of a powerful infrastructure design solution for surveying, land planning, and
construction projects of all types and sizes. These products provide the power and flexibility
for a broad range of projects sothat your land planning, surveying, and drafting teams can
use the same software—whether they’re working on a road project, planning and designing a
subdivision, or analyzing conditions for an environmental assessment such as a landfill.
Autodesk Land Desktop 2006 also includes Carlson Connect and Trimble® Link updates, for
current survey equipment communication software. It provides supportfor additional survey
equipment vendors and utilities to download and upload data from Autodesk Land Desktop
2006 and Autodesk Survey 2006.
Autodesk Survey 2006
Autodesk Survey 2006 software streamlines and automates field data collection, costeffectively closing the gap between gathering data and incorporating it into drawings using
Autodesk Land Desktop. Interface with a broad variety ofindustry-leading data collectors,
survey instruments, and GPS (global positioning system) receivers, and then work with tools
and functionality in Autodesk Land Desktop to create accurate drawings quickly. Use field
coding for automatic linework and mapping. Use Autodesk Survey 2006 to share survey data
with civil engineering, GIS, and land-planning professionals. Autodesk Survey 2006streamlines all aspects of data collection by minimizing keystrokes, saving time, and
supporting the accuracy of field data.

1.2 What happened to Autodesk Civil Design?
As of January 14, 2005, Autodesk no longer offers Autodesk® Civil Design software as a
stand-alone product. It is now sold as partof Autodesk® Civil 3D™ Professional under the
name Autodesk® Civil 3D™ – Civil Design Companion 2006. As with past versions, Autodesk
Civil 3D – Civil Design Companion 2006 is an add-on to Autodesk® Land Desktop 2006 that
helps existing Autodesk Civil Design users move to Autodesk Civil 3D at their own pace. If
