A tornado is a weather phenomenon that consists of a rotating funnel air violently, its lower end is in contact with the surface of the Earth and the upper with a cloud of great vertical developmentinternally formed by a column of warm air damp rising rotating spiral with a counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere schedule.
This is the most intense atmosphericphenomenon known.
They are often referred to as twisters or cyclones, although the word cyclone is used in meteorology, in a wider sense, to name any closed low pressure circulation.
Tornadoes come in manyshapes and sizes but generally have the shape of a funnel cloud, whose narrow end touches the ground and is usually surrounded by a cloud of debris and dust. Most tornadoes have winds reaching speedsbetween 65 and 180 km / h, measured about 75 meters wide and several kilometers move before disappearing. The most extreme wind speeds may have to be rotated to 450 km / h or more, measuring up to 2km wide and remain touching the ground along more than 100 km long.
Among the different types of tornadoes are the landspouts, multiple vortex tornadoes and waterspouts. The latter are formed onbodies of water, connecting to cumulus and clouds of storm larger, but because tornadoes are considered to have similar characteristics that form the earth, as the rotating air stream in a funnel shape.Waterspouts are generally classified as non-supercell tornadoes that form over water bodies.
Tornadoes are detected by pulse Doppler radar and visually by storm chasers. They were observed on everycontinent except Antarctica. However, the vast majority of the world's tornadoes occur in the U.S. region known as Tornado Alley. They also occasionally occur in south-central and eastern Asia, northernand east-central South America, Southern Africa, northwestern and southeast Europe, western and southeastern Australia and New Zealand.
