Two Outstanding Athletes


Puerto Rico is known for a lot more than its culture. It’s known for sports, tourism and our typical foods. In regards to sports, such as baseball, basketball,tennis and volleyball, these are being recognized worldwide. This is only because we have many great athletes. In volleyball, Puerto Rico has many players known around the world. This is why othercountries recruit them to play for their teams and they are sponsored by them. Sometimes we think that our athletes aren’t so good, but in fact they are the ones that put our flag and name on top. Itis our honor to have such great athletes. Volleyball in Puerto Rico has outstanding players in both feminine and masculine leagues.

Hector “Picky” Soto plays with Puerto Rico’s nationalteam and also plays with Guaynabo’s team named The Guaynabo “Mets”. He has been classified as the world’s best masculine volleyball player. He’s been offered to travel and play for Japan as their teamreinforcement player. He’s the team captain and led Puerto Rico’s masculine volleyball team to the championship in the Central American Games. Hector “Picky” Soto has many attributes, this is why hestands out in the masculine league and is a volleyball idol.

Aury Cruz is a very complete player when we talk about women’s volleyball. She has played with many of Puerto Rico’s superiorleague volleyball teams. She’s been practicing this sport from a very young age following her older sister’s steps, Eva Cruz who recently retired. Aury has traveled around the world because ofvolleyball. She plays with Italy as a reinforcement. She is considered one of Puerto Rico’s best feminine volleyball players. She led the women’s team to the silver medal as team captain in the CentralAmerican Games. Aury Cruz is best known for her dedication in defense and also for her spikes.
