Goal: Students willtalk about and describe their hometown or the place where they currently live.
Terminal objectives:
* Students will name different places around their city.
* Students will have shortconversations about the places in their city.
Enabling objectives:
* Students will watch a video about a tour around a city.
* Students will ask and answer yes/no questions about the place wherethey live.
Grammar structure: simple present – there’s and there are
Target language:
Bank, hospital, house, park, zoo, school, pool, restaurant, building, etc.
Materials:
“Tour aroundCartagena” – video
TV or projector
CD with a conversation recorded describing a city in The States.
Pictures of places around the city
Photocopiable activity copied onto thin cardboard; one copyfor each student.

Warm – up
Review the parts of the house. Use a poster and ask students questions about the house and where things are. Use singular and plural things to review that topic.Presentation
* Tell the students that they are learning about the places in their own city.

1. Show them the video where they will clearly see some places that all cities have in common. Afterthe video finishes, ask students what places they remember from the video.
* Ask yes/no questions to students about the video, e.g., Is there a bank in the city? Are there swimming pools in thecity, too? Elicit a response from a student. Help them answer at first and then ask again.
* Display the pictures of places on the board and tell them to tell you what they see. Write thevocabulary under each picture as they say the words. Have the class repeat the pronunciation together for each word.
* Make a circling motion around the flashcard with your hands and say These are...
