EL DISEÑO SISMO-RESISTENTE DE UNA UNIDAD MEDICA
FAMILIAR, CON ADOBE

What it is exposed in this paper, is a seismic behavior analysis for the traditional adobe
buildings. A characterization is made of the damages due to the operating forces in the
differentplanes, and it concludes with the definition of the structural design requirements
wich are necessary for the seismic resistance applied to an “Unidad Medica Familiar (UMF)”
or Primary Attention Centerproject.
Adobe buildings, apparently lack elasticity. This makes them vulnerable in the corners
because they don´t resist to the sharp efforts that operate in those unions. A non compact
volume, anirregular plant shape and the lack of bracing are some of the main causes of the
collapse, in addition to the inappropiate connection among the thickness, the height and the
length of the walls.
In thissolution, bamboo canes (reed) are used as a reinforcement into the walls to increase
ductility and tensile strenght.
The project is in Huajuapan of Leon, Oax. on the coast of the Mexican PacificOcean. This
zone is characterized to register earthquakes over 7 degrees in the Ritcher scale and it is
located at the C seismic zone.

Resumen
Loque se expone en este artículo, es un análisis del comportamiento ante los sismos de las
edificaciones de adobe tradicionales y se hace una caracterización de los daños debidos a
las fuerzas actuantesen los diferentes planos para concluir con la definición de los
requerimientos de diseño necesarios para la sismorresistencia aplicados al proyecto de una
Unidad Médica Familiar (UMF) o Centro deAtención Primaria.
El adobe, aparentemente carece de elasticidad. Esto lo hace vulnerable en las esquinas al
