There are many shows on T.V. that try to resemble real life things. Undercover boss is a really good show because it resembles an organization structure andcomponents. According to Stohr and Collins and organization is a grouping of individuals with a binding purpose (Stohr, Collins, 2009, pp.18). The show that I watch was about Great Wolf Resorts. This isnot a Justice or governmental organization, this is a private company, but even though it’s not public or justice related organization it doesn’t mean it’s going to have a completely differentstructure.
There are a lot of differences between a private and public organization. One of the most important things that both organizations have is bureaucracy. Bureaucracy refers to how organizationsare structured, ruled or socially organized and includes hierarchy, specialization, and rule of law (Stohr, Collins, 2009, pp. 20). Many people when they hear the word bureaucracy they immediately thinkin something bad, but it is the complete opposite way. Bureaucracy is a hierarchical system that gives its structure to an organization.
In the Great Wolf Resorts there is a huge bureaucracy thatmakes it possible for all employees to have a good and safe working area. When I was watching this episode I was able to distinguish were the bureaucracy was in each department and one thing that Iliked a lot is that employees didn’t had a bureaucratic behavior, meaning that employees didn’t just followed the rules but they also used a lot of common sense. Employees knew what they needed to do butthey work it out in a way that it was convenient for them and for the costumers. I think that this is one of the most important and valuable things a company should have. It is easy to understandrules, but it is hard to actually apply them.
