Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Mount Vesuvius is located in the plain of Campania about 7 miles from the cityon Naples, Italy. This volcano has an elevation of 1281 meters high, a base of 48 kilometers, and it is 17,000 years old.
Mount Vesuvius is classified as an composite volcano, the volcano iscurrently active, this type of volcanoes are very tall or steep and are made of many layers of lava high in silica, ash and other particles such as rocks.
Mount Vesuvius’ eruption cycle is of about 20years. This volcano is likely to have violent eruptions because of its highness in silica. The last time Mount Vesuvius erupted was in 1944. This eruption was 2 weeks long eruption; the volcano beganto erupt on 18th March of 1944, the eruption changed to explosive activity in the 21st, the lava increased with the day but finally the eruption finishes on 29th March 1944.
Mount Vesuvius is partof the Campanian Volcanic Arc, the Campanian Volcanic Arc is a line of volcanoes in Italy, this line of volcanoes is located over a oceanic/oceanic subduction zone.
Mount Vesuvius’ most famousexplosion was in 79 A.D, this eruption destroyed the cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii, but the city that was most damage was Pompeii. Pompeii is an ancient city of Italy, in the Campania region, built nearthe Samus River a few miles south from Mount Vesuvius. When Vesuvius erupted it covered the cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii with 20 feet of volcanic ash. During this eruption about people werekilled. This eruption lasted 19 hours; the volcano covered the cities with adeadly cloud of stones, ash and gases, to height of 20.5 miles and covered about 4 cubic kilometers.
