1. Provide a brief Summary of the film
Carl Fredricksen is a quiet boy who admires renowned explorer and pilot Charles F. Muntz. This explorer was accused of fabricating the skeleton of a giant bird he had discovered in Paradise Falls, South America. For this, he vows to return there to capture one alive. One day, Carl knew a energeticgirl named Ellie, who is also a Muntz fan. She wrote her dreams in her personal diary and she tells Carl of her dream to travel Paradise Falls, making him promise to help her.
Carl and Ellie get married and grow old together in the house where they first met. Carl worked as a toy balloon vendor. They couldn't have children, for this they tried to save for a trip to Paradise Falls, but somethingalways happened and they had to spend their savings. One day, Carl finally buys tickets to South America, but before they can leave, Ellie becomes ill and dies.
As the years pass, his house is in a new construction and must be destroyed. Carls decides to keep his promise to Ellie and with the help of helium balloons located in the chimney of his house, he travels to South America. A child namedRussell is an Explorer and he becomes an accidental passenger, trying to win his final merit badge for "assisting the elderly".
After surviving a thunderstorm, they come in Paradise Falls. Carl and Russell begin to walk it around the ravine, hoping to reach the falls before the balloons deflate.
More later, Russell found a bird, who is trying to return to her chicks, this bird is for the onethat the pilot Charles Muntz has looked therefore time. Russell names the bird Kevin and makes Carl promise to help return her safely to her brood. The group then meets a dog named Dug who wears a special collar that allows him to speak.
Later, Carl and Russell are brought by various dogs to Dug's master, an elderly Charles Muntz, and there he discovered that Kevin is with them.
Carl and Russellflee, chased by Muntz's army of dogs and Kevin is bitten on the leg in the escape. They decided to help to Kevin to return with her chicks, but are caught by Muntz. After this they rescued to Kevin and finally the bird is reunites with her chicks.
At the end, Carl assists to the ceremony to promoting Senior Explorer with Russell and he puts his emblem. After this, they live many adventures withDug and the other dogs.
2. State your opinion of the movie. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Provide specific examples (scenes, situations) from the film.
For me UP of is a very nice movie, its scenes are very well made and with a visual excellent quality. It is a movie that has many emotions, mixing sadness (when Carl Fredricksen’s wife dies or when Kevin is Kidnapped), adventure, action(when they rescue Kevin in the zeppelin fighting with Muntz and his dogs), happiness (when Kevin return with his chicks and Rusell receives his medal) and entertainment (for the beautiful landscapes of the movie).
In addition it teaches you many values as the friendship and the help to the others. I love it and I could say in my opinion that this movie doesn’t have any weaknesses.
3. Whatcharacter do you most identify with? What are the main personality traits if this character?
Definitively and without doubting it, I identify with Dug, I Fall in love since he said: “My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you.”
Dug is a Golden Retriever, very tender, adorable, loyally, friendly and affectionately. Though it's not the most ready dog of his herd but finally he’s who helps Carland Russell to rescue Kevin, in addition he turns in Carl's loyal pet. I love dogs and I love Dug.
