“Cuba is a little island in the Caribbean with little to no resources. We can do a lot to improve the people's health. This does not happen in the United States. Why are we able and you are not?”.As I heard these words several years ago, in Michael Moore’s documentary “Sicko”, I realized how much more the world’s most important and powerful nation has still to grow. As I watched true storiesof Americans living without a reliable health care plan, getting denied medical treatment for reasons some of us may not even think possible, emotions of anger, sadness and shock took control of mybody. I opened my eyes to the fact that many of them are denied coverage for being too young or too old, too sick or too healthy, for having pre existing conditions they were unaware of, or for anyother reason the insurance company finds in order to save money. Some Americans are forced into debt, and others obliged to move out of the country in order to receive proper healthcare. It was then Iunderstood: Health Care companies don’t work for the benefit of the people, but work for the benefit of their own bank accounts. The doctor who saves the company the greatest amount of money is seenas a hero, irrespective of how many lives were put on the line because of that money.
The healthcare system in the United States has long been a debatable issue. Unlike in many other welldeveloped countries, such as Canada, France, United Kingdom and many more, the United States healthcare system is less socialistic, and thus a subject to many debates and disagreements. A private healthcaresystem, like the one in the United States, is a great contribution to the national economic system, but such private systems restrict certain members of the society from receiving appropriatehealthcare, or from receiving it at all. Since millions of Americans cannot afford healthcare insurance they lack appropriate medical care. However, those who belong to a higher social class enjoy ample...
