Used to: We use 'used to' for something that happened regularly in the past but no longer happens and is used only in the pasttense. Has three structures affirmative, negative and questions.
* Affirmative: Subject + used to + verb infinitive. Example:
- He used to study
- She used to swim when she lived in Africa- They used to be good students
- I used to work in London
* Negative: Note that the word "used" is past, therefore, we need the auxiliary verb "did" to deny. We must also put "used" in theinfinitive. So your structure is: subject + did not (didn't) + use to + verb infinitive. Example:
- You didn't use to work.
- I didn't use to do it
- Wedidn't use to read
- I didn't use to like him but now I do
* Questions: to formulate a question requires the auxiliary verb "did" and "use" infinitive. So your structure is: Did +subject + use to + verb infinitive?. Example:
* Did you use to work?
* Did I use to do it?
* Did we use to read?
* Did you use to play football
*
And the answer short to thequestion is “yes, I did” or “No, I didn´t”, and the answer large is “yes, I did play football” or “No, I didn´t play football”
