DIVE SITE DESCRIPTION
NAME:
PLAYA PIEDRAS PINTAS / CALETA LALO
Beach *Piedras Pintas* / Cove *Lalo*Cove location: 27 56.392N 111 05.433W
It is a Beach located north of the town of San Carlos, Sonora, México.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From Guaymas, drive all the way to San Carlos, pass downtown SanCarlos and follow the mainroad towards Tetakawi hill, follow the signs to El Mirador Escénico, which will indicate to turn left right after passing Tetakawi Hill on your left; follow the road to ElMirador, drive slowly by El Mirador RV Park and turn left on the first dirt road / beach access, follow the dirt road and you will find yourself on solid ground to choose a place to park on; watch outnot to drive too close to the beach, since the soil there is mainly sandy and most likely your vehicle would get stuck on the sand. You are at Playa Piedras Pintas by then.
DEPTH:
The Cove´sdepths near the beach start with 5 to 7 ft; going southward you encounter depth of 20 ft varying on the sandy areas from 25 to 30 ft. The deepest of the cove is 40ft further out south.
WHAT CAN BESEEN:
There is kelp during the cold water months ( from October until late May). There are several shorts of stingrays, eels, morays, seasnakes, nudibranchs. Several sorts of fish representative ofCalifornia Gulf, also known as Sea of Cortez, such as angelfish, barberfish, sergeant major, hawkfish, damselfish, chromis, sandbass, etcetera; including the fact that several sorts of whales visit thearea also during the cold water months.
FACILITIES:
There are no facilities at all, this implies that you should bring over all needed gear, personal hidration and food; to bring toilet paper is agood idea, tough restrooms are the bushes around.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
Realize that you are on the desert; snakes can be around / close; there is almost no shade, insolation is a possibility if...
