Idol Round-Up

American Idol alumni are allover the music charts, performance schedules, and news this week. Take a look at some of the news of note.

On the Charts
American Idol Kelly Clarkson’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Jason Aldean is gaining airplay on USA TODAY’s AC and Hot AC formats. This week, the song is #35 on the AC chart and #39 on the Hot AC top 40 chart. Kelly celebrated her 29th birthday yesterday, and she performed thehit song on Idol with Jason during the Top 8 results show. View photos.

Idol Fantasia’s “Collard Greens & Cornbread” entered the Urban AC top 40 at #30. She performed the single on a recent Season 10 results show. See pictures of her performance.

Season 5’s Mandisa has a hit with “Stronger.” The song moved up a slot on the Christian AC chart, now sitting at #2; she's also at #13 on the Idolairplay chart. Recently, Mandisa visited "Extra's" Mario Lopez at The Grove to talk about her new album, What If We Were Real. The interview and a performance of the title track of the album aired Thursday, April 7, 2011.

Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Jason Castro, and Chris Sligh all have tracks in the top 40 of one or more charts this week.

Judge Jennifer Lopezreleased a new song from her Love? album entitled “Papi.” The dance track was produced by Lady Gaga’s longtime producer RedOne.

Season 8’s winner, Kris Allen, unveiled a new song he finished writing at a secret show at the Viper Room in West Hollywood, CA on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Entitled, “Shut That Door,” the song is a departure from his typical pop sensibilities and evokes a morecountry-like sound.

Meanwhile, Season 8’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, will release his Glam Nation Live on Blu-Ray on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Adam has been writing songs with bluesy singer-songwriter Nikka Costa. On April 11th, Adam’s “charity: water” birthday campaign officially ended, with the total donations reaching more than $323,000. The donations will help provide clean water to over 16,000 people inAfrica.

Judge Randy Jackson confirmed in an interview that Season 10’s Top 9 Finalist, Pia Toscano, has signed a record deal with Jimmy Iovine and Interscope Records to create her first album.

Music Sales: Albums
Jennifer Hudson sold 21,000 copies of her album, I Remember Me, remaining the best-selling album from an Idol alumnus this week, finishing at Billboard #19. Mandisa is the onlyother Idol album on the Billboard chart at #110 with her album, What If We Were Real. AI-10 Top 8 finalist Paul McDonald sold nearly 2,000 copies of his pre-Idol band’s self-titled album, Grand Magnolias, enough to put it at #12 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.
